Not exactly like he'd have been sensitive in speaking about it even if she had seemed upset. Honestly that would have been much less likely to keep his behaviour in check. At least this way the seeming lack of emotional vulnerability keeps them on closer to equal footing, not that he'll ever not be disdainful of her humanity, as a general rule. And yes normally he'd probably have a better sense of her inner turmoil, but really, apathy is a great cloaking mechanism, and he is rather distracted by the feeling of being trapped.
