"So, Times Square." He nods to himself, jams his hands into his pockets, and follows. "That's good. Good, uh, good central reference point." He's big on reference points. Reference points are the cornerstones of both translation and navigation, a common ground, and thus a doubly important factor. Times Square sounds like a better reference point than the one he's been using, namely Lucy's apartment. At least he now knows how to get to and from there which is a marked improvement from a few days ago.
