Johnny takes a slow drag as the guy struggles to verbalize. He feels sympathetic, but also strangely removed. He might even look apathetic. He's been feeling weird like that a lot lately.

"It's not a weird question," he says. "It's, uh. Hang on." He digs out his phone and checks it. "August 13th," he says, pocketing it again. "2013." Another drag. "Is that close to when you came from?"
