Both Daines look dismayed as the plan fails to work - particularly the one on the bed, who'd indirectly suggested it. Maybe if he just drew a portrait? But that might result in just Katniss's head showing up, and that'd be worse than what they're already dealing with.

And now she's getting violent, lashing out like a cornered cat. Daine doesn't entirely blame her, at least not for the frustration and fear, but it's not helping matters. And she won't have anyone hurting Peeta, old friend from home or no. Not while she just stands idly by.
