Daine frowns tightly. It's not hard at all to imagine what that must have been like for Johnny. She gives her head a brisk shake, and Sarge laps at her forearm once before sitting down and leaning against her leg. He, at least is reassuringly solid. Daniel still looks plenty real, but Shadow has resumed poking his paw through the man's leg, and Molly - one, shyly - follows suit.

"You said it's happened before," Daine remembers, looking up at him. "Does that mean you'll get your body back?" She has some experience with being outside her own body - more than most, probably - but it's hard to imagine being that way all the time. If Daniel recovered from the other times he ascended, maybe that means he'll recover from this, too.
