Luke wouldn't be up for much in the way of pleasantries right now anyway. It's all a bit of a blur to him -- it's hard to believe he can't just go back the way he came and get home. Part of him still feels like he can, and this won't last.

"I was going to school back home," he replies, looking a bit downcast. It's not that he doesn't like his classes -- quite the opposite -- but it occurs to him that without Clyde and Maria, he'll be lost when it comes to spending time with other people his age. "Topher said I could help him research the rift," he says.
