Event: Curses!

photo beauty and the beast stained glass rose-NZWR_sm_zpsadnbeqxz.png

The twenty-seventh of August dawns bright and clear, but when your characters wake up, they will immediately notice something wrong. They've woken up the wrong size, or species, or age. Or perhaps everything seems normal until they take a bite of their apple-flavored toaster strudel, or attempt to speak, or wander into the woods, or bump into that old crone in the subway and fail to adequately apologize. However it happens, there's no getting around it: your characters are cursed, like an unfortunate out of a fairy tale.

On the bright side, many curses can be broken. Unfortunately, none of them come with user manuals, so how they might be broken isn't clear. Perhaps true love's kiss will do it, or a heroically sacrificial act, or some serious reflection followed by revelatory insight into your own soul. Or, y'know, whatever. But it's far more likely that your character will just be stuck with whatever it is until sunset, when any and all remaining curses will be broken.

[OOC: Feel free to use this post for initial reactions to whatever curse your character has found themselves suffering. Any additional posts for more specified shenanigans can go up under the 'events: curses' tag. Sunset is a little after 7:30 PM. Backdating and backtagging are the best and you should do both of those things if necessary.]

I'm a book?

It's not that she doubts him - Aziraphale wouldn't lie to her about something like this, and it would explain why she can't seem to move and why she's smaller than usual. She's not sure how she can still see and feel, but she can worry about that later. The important thing is that she can still see and hear and feel and think. She just needs to make sure Aziraphale knows that for certain, though he's talking to her as if he thinks - or hopes - she can hear him.

I can't talk aloud, she muses, ostensibly to herself, unaware that words are appearing on her pages. But I'm definitely still here. What if I tried praying?

This is - getting marginally less alarming. She seems fine, untraumatized. He exhales slowly, trying to steady himself.

"You are talking, rather," he says. "Words are appearing on the pages, I suppose if you mean me to understand you, then they appear? This seems to be some sort of... fairy tale dilemma." Judging by the earlier King Midas reference. "I'm relieved to know you're all right, at least. Though this is not a problem I anticipated having to solve this morning." The most he'd been expecting was perhaps some developments in the continually shaky realm of relations between his favorite employee and his favorite baker. Speaking of, he should probably get there. He's meant to be in today.

"Er," he says awkwardly. "Would it be all right if I... took you with me? I don't want to leave you here but I think I must go out, at least to see about getting this resolved."

Melanie's confused, but not especially worried. Aziraphale will sort it out, she's sure. Maybe Crowley can help, if it comes down to it. And she can still talk, sort of.

More to the point, she can't hurt anyone.

I can't hurt anyone if I'm just a book! And ROMAC won't even think to look for me like this.

She could go out. And it would be perfectly safe, or as safe as it ever could be. Melanie feels a little thrill at the thought.

I would love to see the bookshop!

It's too bad she doesn't really have a face anymore. She wishes she could express her excitement without just saying 'I'm excited.' Wait, maybe there is. What were those things Crowley had shown her? She considers for a few moments, then concentrates hard.

:D

She doesn't seem bothered by this situation. Actually, she seems - excited? Happy?

Because she can't hurt anyone. She'd rather be a book if it meant everyone else would be safe. The poor little dear. He winces slightly at the realization, though it's difficult to remain unhappy in the figurative face of her delight at going out. Her little smiley face is - well, that's Crowley's doing, of course, though it's much more endearing coming from her.

"Well," he says. "All right. You will rather fit in there like this, won't you?"

He manages a faint smile. Can she see him? Mildly unsettling, if she could. He decides not to ask.

He tucks her gently under his arm, hoping she doesn't mind, and whisks them away to his shop.
