Bruce is slowly acquainting himself with this version of New York City. He tries to spend as much time as he can in his labs, but there is only so much that can be done in a day. Sometimes, science requires patience, sitting back and letting things happen.

Also, there is the very real possibility that he will spend the rest of his life here. Bruce doesn't intend to spend it alone, isolated from the people of this world. He's had enough of that in his life. As difficult as it is for him, Bruce knows he has to make connections and find people who are willing to accept both him and the Hulk.

He needs the Hulk to learn how to quickly tell friend from foe.

Unfortunately, Bruce's deep thoughts mean he is not paying enough attention to his surroundings. He crosses the road at the last moments before the crossing light changes from "walk" to "don't walk." Unfortunately, a car also speeds towards him, barely pausing at a stop sign.

The result is Bruce getting hit in the side by the car and going flying over the hood.

This wakes the Hulk up.

Hulk ignores the driver, who gets out of the car to help Bruce and then flees, when he sees the Hulk. Instead, the Hulk focuses on the man's car, pummeling it angrily and tearing it into pieces. This only takes a few moments, then Hulk stops and looks around the street. People are screaming and running, but, so far, no one is trying to hurt Hulk or shooting stupid bullets.

Hulk is glad when screaming stops. He takes them as deep into the woods of Central Park as he can, then comes to a halt, landing beside a thick nest of trees and uprooting several saplings. He sets the two down, smiling proudly.

Yuri has something of a death grip on Hulk's arm, so it takes him a moment to dislodge himself once the green giant moves to set them down. He staggers once his feet meet the ground, and fetches up against a tree to support himself. "I don't think I liked that ride," he says weakly, trying to make a joke of it.

Thinking of her time on a slave ship, Aly smiles grimly. "I've had worse."

Hulk grumbles a little at the pressure on his arm, but hunches down close to the humans.

"Hulk not ride. Puny humans safe now."

"No, no," Yuri agrees hastily, still hanging onto his new friend, the tree. "Course you're not."

[aly_brighteyes]

"Yes, but you were a wonderful help in escaping." Aly perks an ear and sharpens her Sight, checking to see if they've been followed. Certainly Romac will be able to nip up their trail, but if they can stay hidden for a few moments longer that will suit her well.

"Hulk, do you think you can wait to smash? Just until we know we're safe?"

"Hulk knows. Safe here. Nothing to smash yet."

"We can't get off the island," Yuri hisses to Aly. He can't imagine where Hulk can smash anything without bringing Romac down on them. Not in the middle of New York. But maybe...licking his lips nervously, he turns to the giant. "You were, uh, smaller before. How did you...grow?"

She wonders if the Hulk can even control such a thing, but says nothing.

"It will make us harder to find."

Hulk huffs, sitting and crossing his arms over his chest.

"Always puny Banner. Puny Banner not save puny ones! Hulk saved! Always think Hulk monster! ONLY WANT BANNER!"

Yuri bites his tongue to stop himself from pointing out that they hadn't needed rescuing until he turned into a jolly green giant and smashed a car. "Banner?" he asks, squinting at the giant man. "Do you mean Bruce Banner?"

Meanwhile, Aly pauses on a different line of confusion. "Wait? Big Hulk and small Hulk aren't the same?" She shrugs and reaches out to pat his arm.

"Hulk saved us, it's all right. We just want to be harder to find."

"Betty call Banner Bruce," Hulk recalls, shrugging. "Only HULK is Hulk. Puny Banner is small and soft...puny human. No one find. Hulk can leap away or smash."

"Bruce as in that guy I met when he -- when you came through the rift?" Yuri's still staring at him, trying to see the resemblance. He didn't get a chance to see the man before he transformed; now that he knows, he's a little worried at the thought of Bruce having access to the rebel base. He tries to tamp down that thought, telling himself that he's hardly any better, what with how he's rampaged through the park in bear form before.

[aly_brighteyes]

Aly mentally chews on that information, wondering at the strangeness of it all. "Odd's bobs," she mutters, channeling Daine for a moment.

[beastisbeauty]

"Hulk not remember. Banner keep things from Hulk. Thinks too fast for Hulk. Always thinking, thinking, thinking. Annoys Hulk," Hulk grumbled, giving the woman a baleful glance. "Hulk not odd! Puny humans odd! Too soft and too loud."

Hulk has no appreciation for the irony of his comment.

Yuri finally relinquishes his grip on the tree. "Sorry," he says. "About the yelling." Even though he felt perfectly justified about it.

[aly_brighteyes]

Aly nods, playing meek and quiet. "I didn't mean for you to say you're odd. It's just something my friend says."

Hulk huffs a bit, at the apologies, calming down somewhat. He wraps his arms around his knees, resting his head.

"Banner and Hulk not the same. Sometimes Banner. Sometimes Hulk. Hulk come out to smash."

"Only to smash?" That doesn't sound like much fun to Yuri, but that's probably why Yuri isn't Hulk.

[aly_brighteyes]

"Seems a bit of a limited option," Aly observes. She keeps an ear perked for any sounds of trouble. "What shall we do now?"

"SMASH!" Hulk suggests, enthusiastically. "Smash bad Romac! Show Hulk Romac and Hulk smash."

[stronglikebear]

Yuri jumps in surprise at the shout. "Shhhh!" he protests before remembering that he's shushing the not-so-jolly green giant. He looks around uneasily. "Romac's a bunch of people, alright? They've got buildings and jail cells and stuff, doesn't matter how strong you are."

[aly_brighteyes]

"Romac can't be smashed so easily," Aly agrees, though she's of a mind to see if they can't be made to crumble from the inside out. She's with the rebels mostly for Daine's sake until she figures out whether she wants to throw her lot in with another revolution.

Still, it is always ever-so-nice to watch regimes topple.

Hulk huffs, looking irritated.

"Strong matters. Strong always matters! Jail not hold Hulk!"
