Event: the Bother with Bunnies
On the morning of May 6th, 2013, the citizens of Rift York will awaken to find themselves with a new and unexpected roommate. Or two. Or five. The good news: these new roommates don't eat much, they're quiet, and they're pretty adorable. The bad news: no one asked for their homes to be overrun by Angora rabbits.
The rift isn't in the habit of giving people what they ask for, though, so you're just going to have to deal with these bunnies everywhere until the evening of May 8th, when they will disappear as mysteriously and suddenly as they arrived. In the meantime, you might consider them a goodwill gesture from a rift that isn't always so kind. The rabbits seem to be most heavily concentrated in areas where rifties are staying, after all. While Manhattan at large might not appreciate the full extent of the bunnypocalypse, the rifties will find the creatures quite difficult to avoid.
Feel free to post your character's reactions here, or to make your own entries under the event tag. The event will be running for the next two days in-game, or through January 19th in real life. As ever, backdating is allowed and encouraged.

He shakes his head at her question and shrugs. He has no idea.

"… Huh." She blinks, then gives her head a little shake. "Sorry, you look like someone else I know." Hoisting the laundry basket against her hip, she asks, "You don't know a guy named Peeta, do you?"
no subject
He shakes his head in reply. He doesn't know anyone named Peeta.

"I'm Sunshine," she offers, setting down the laundry basket. If the rabbits decide to make a break for it, she'll just pretend not to notice. They'd probably be happier here with their fellows, anyway, right?

I'm Edgar. I'm mute, but I can talk to you this way if we're touching. His smile edges toward reassuring. Some people react worse to this than others. I probably sound like someone you know; it'll pass, he quickly adds.

"… Ah," she says eloquently as the voice shifts from Con's to Mel's. She kind of wants to yank her hand back, but it doesn't sound like the kid - Edgar - is doing it on purpose. And he did say it would pass. And… it's not the worst thing in the world, hearing Con's and Mel's voices again. She could've done with it coming from Con or Mel, though, and not a mini-Peeta.
Meanwhile, she's still staring at him, and she drops her gaze to the various rabbits underfoot. "Did they just show up here, too? I found these two in my apartment. No idea how they got in." See, this is what happens when you don't have proper wards.

Yeah, he confirms. I woke up this morning to find those three - he points to the ones nestled against Almondine - in my room. It looks like it's a base-wide invasion. Probably the rift's doing.

Sunshine looks down at her two charges. One seems perfectly content to huddle in the basket, but the other has its paws up on the edge and appears to be eyeing its surroundings. That's what she assumes, anyway; it's hard to tell anything for certain under all that fur. "It's not just base-wide," she says. "I live in the apartments."

… Oh, hell. Does this mean Spike just had a handful of rabbits rift-lifted right onto his kitchen table? She cringes at the thought of him just… ugh. No. She can't exactly disapprove of his human-free diet, but this is just unfair for the poor creatures. Bad enough to be displaced by the rift and have Spike be the first kali thing you encounter without also being something he'd willingly devour.
"I have to go," she says abruptly, tipping the laundry basket with her foot so that both of the rabbits tumble out. "Can you, uh, watch these guys for me?"
no subject
Uh, sure. I'll just add them to the collection, he says, throwing a thumb over his shoulder at the half-dozen or more currently wandering the hall.

It occurs to her to wonder if she should be bringing them here, but where else is anyone supposed to bring them? They don't seem that starved for space down here, and rabbits live underground, right?
"Maybe I'll see you around - Edgar, right?" She nods down at Almondine, adding, "Cute dog." Then she releases his hand and retrieves her empty laundry basket. She's probably going to need it.
